This is the interal skeleton of a Heart Urchin (Eupatagus sp.) Heart Urchins are burrowing (infaunal) echinoderms that feed on organic matter in the sediment. The position of the mouth opening on heart urchins is unique in that it is anteriorly located, as opposed to ventrally located as it is on most sea urchins.
